My ideas for service learning

There are a couple of ideas I had for service learning. One of them is to volunteer in a hospital. It would be like going on a tour but helping out at the same time. You could learn a lot in medicines during this volunteer work. Another ideas is to help clean out the dirty lots in philadelphia. This would teach us things on how to help our environment and our earth. It could also show people how this could help us have a healthier future.

Final Grade in English

“ How could I get a ‘f’ in English? Mr. Romero, I thought you were my friend!” That’s probably the process you’ll go through come report card time. One student you won’t be hearing that from is I. I disserve an A in your class because I work hard, I try my best, and I think about my grades while doing the work that’s going to get me my grades.

I disserve an A in your English class firstly because I am a very hard worker. Every assignment we get I work REAL hard on. I think I’ve done a good job so far. You can actually tell when I’m hard at work too. One main sign of me working hard is when I’m quiet. Another sign is when I ignore everyone and everything around me that I feel will affect my work and me.

Another reason an A seems like a good grade for me is that I try my best. I try to complete all assignments at every chance I get. I also try to understand the work I do. And I have to try not to get distracted. Even when my friends are talking to me I try not to get distracted. One other thing that I try my best on is my essay. I put a lot of thought into my essays when I write them.

Last but defiantly not least; I really should get an A because I think of my grades while doing the work that’s going to get me my grade. Every essay, class assignment, or discussion we’ve had I thought of my grade. I want A’s so I have to work for that A. It really helps a lot because it usually works

In conclusion I disserve an A in English because I work really hard, I try really hard, and I think of my grades before I get them. I really think I disserve an A in your class as you can see. I hope you take this essay into consideration.

BIOGRAPHYY REPORT: James Langston Hughes
Biography by Andrew P. Jackson

Langston Hughes was born February 1, 1902 in Joplin, Missouri. He was born to an abolitionist family. He started writing poetry in the eighth grade. His father wanted him to be an engineer, but Langston didn’t want to. He soon dropped out of engineering school and continued to write poetry.
Langston Hughes real name was James Langston Hughes. He was pressured by his parents to be something other than a poet. His father thought it wouldn’t do him much good. He was a person who was not about to let someone control his life. James helped himself succeed. He did this by doing what he knew he was good at. He knew what he wanted to be at a young age. It was when he wrote that poem in the eighth grade. Langston prepared his future by writing more and more poems and then tried to get them published
Langston did short plays, essays, and his most famous works, poems. His contribution literature was important because so many black writers are what they are because of him. For example Toni Morrison. He also inspired people by letting them know not to listen to what other people say about them, to follow their own dream.
You all should know that my character worked hard to follow his dream. He went against all odds. It’s kind of like a Romeo and Juliet story except the love is between Langston and his love for writing. We benefit from him today because there are a lot of black writers in the world today. The most important thing Langston did in my views was going against all odds to do what he wanted to do.
My character has inspired me by letting me know that I need to follow my own dreams and not everyone else’s. One way I would like to be like his is to be famous for following my dream of modeling.

The bluest eye excerpt#2(characters)

What does Sigmund Freud’s theory of the ID, ego, and superego have in comparison with Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye”? I believe that characters from the second excerpt we read can each be compared with the ID, ego, or superego. Claudia would be the ID, her peers that adore Maureen are the ego, and Claudia is also the superego. Here are a couple of details to support my thesis.

Claudia being the ID is comparing Freud’s theory with Morrison’s writing first of all because she is doing what fits her. Her ID is telling her to be jealous of Maureen, who was the new girl. She gave in to this demand very easily in my opinion because she immediately started to try and find something wrong with Maureen.

Freud’s theory is further more comparable to this specific part of the story by Claudia’s peers being the superego. They weren’t really mentioned but you can compare them to the superego because they didn’t do things to Maureen that they did to other classmates. They wouldn’t let Claudia do anything to the new girl because they adored her so much.

Last but not least, Freud’s theory and this particular excerpt from “The Bluest Eye” have something in common by Claudia not only being the ID, but the ego also. This is so
because she knew her limits. She knew things would go totally wrong if she messed with Maureen. So since she couldn’t be Maureen’s enemy, she considered being her friend.

In conclusion, There are three things that Sigmund Freud’s (a famous psychologist) theory of the ID, ego, and superego, and an excerpt from Toni Morrison’s (a famous author) the bluest eye have in common. They are that Claudia is indeed the ID and also the ego, and her peers are the superego. Now that you have seen my thesis, what’s yours?

Graduation of 2011

” Congratulations class of 2011, you have made it to the next level!” Those are the words I am going to here when I, Labriah Morgan graduate. I know what you’re thinking, “why does she think she’s going to graduate?” Well I don’t think I’m going to graduate, I know I’m going to graduate. Here are three specific reasons why. I’m graduating because I’m intelligent, I’ think of my parents while I’m in school, and I REFUSE to be another statistic. Here are some details to support my reasons.

I would say I am a very intelligent individual firstly because I earn good grades. I haven’t had not one bad grade since kindergarten. I also complete all of the schoolwork given to me. I haven’t missed one assignment unless I was absent I am further more intelligent because I was accepted to this college prep school. To get accepted I must have been a very bright student.

Another reason I’m graduating is because I think of my parents during the hours of the school day. This is so because everything I do in school reflects my parents. So if I show unacceptable behavior then that shows that my parents aren’t doing such a good job with raising me. I also think of their proud faces and what they expect from me, because then I know exactly what I have to do.

I more over engage that I’m going to graduate because I REFUSE to be another statistic. The statistics for students who don’t graduate are seven out of ten. I will be a part of the three that do graduate. That statistic is worst for African American students, so that means that I have to be the best I can be and then some.

In conclusion I will be receiving a high school diploma in June, 2011 because I am a very bright student, I am my parents, and I refuse to be the seven out of ten students who don’ go on to college. Know that we know were I’m going to be in four years, How about you?

Dear Mr. Romero,

I have chosen the essay above for a few reasons. One reason is that I think the hook is the best one I’ve written all year. I really put a lot of thought into this particular hook. I also like my usage of “so what”. I thought the whole “how about you” thing would leave the reader speechless. Another thing I thought was spectacular about this essay was the transitions. I used one for every yellow sentence finally. It’s obvious that you will feel the same way.

Thank you, Labriah Morgan

Freud/cat in the hat

Freud has the name of the father of physiology. He is the discoverer of the ID, Ego, and Superego. The cat in the hat is a perfect example of this theory. The xcat is the ID, the fish is the Ego and the children are the Superego.

The cat is the ID first of all because he is doing what he wants when he wants. He is also trying to get the children to do the same. You can tell he is doing what he wants because the thing that he does has no order. One thing he does is play games. The games he plays involves juggling the fish with dishes. He also has “things” that destroy the house.

The fish is the ego because he tries to tell the children the right thing to do. He was basically an angel in which some people would call a “sissy”. He made sure he tried to do the right things. He even told the children to get the cat out of the house.

The children are considered the superego because they basically neutralized the situation. They were smack dab in the middle. The children eventually solved the problem by kicking the cat out. The cat had part in this, believe it or not, when he came back to the house to clean up his mess.

In conclusion the cat in the hat is the perfect example of Freud’s theory. In other words if I were to re-name the characters of the story there would be a cat named ID, a fish named ego, and two children named super and ego.
